spreader calibration information
Spreader Types
There are three basic types of spreaders available to apply deicers:
- Broadcast – Used when covering very large areas, such as wide walkways or parking lots.
- Bottom-drop – Used for more narrowed areas, such as sidewalks, or areas with sensitive vegetation nearby.
- Hand-held – Used in very small areas and steps.
Using a Spreader
A spreader should be properly calibrated before use to accurately deliver the recommended application rate of a deicer. Calibration setting mechanisms are either dials or levers and differ between spreader makes and models.
Various spreader manufacturers tested samples of PELADOW® in their spreaders based on the recommended application rate. Listed below are their recommended settings for the leading spreaders on the market.
PELADOW RECOMMENDED APPLICATION RATE = 28 lbs. per 1000 ft2
Based on melting a thin sheet of ice at 20° F in 30 minutes. Always use the least amount necessary. Adjust based on ice thickness and temperature.
